What is Stamp Duty?

Stamp Duty is the tax charged by the Government when you purchase a home. All house-buyers had to pay stamp duty on properties over £125,000, or if you were a first-time buyer you did not need to pay stamp duty unless the property you were buying was more than £300,000.

What are the charges?

Following the latest announcement, there are major Stamp Duty savings for home buyers in England. The new changes mean if you buy a home up to the value of £500,000, you will not need to pay any Stamp Duty until 31st March 2021.

This change applies to both first time buyers and those moving on from an existing home. If you are buying a second home, you will still be subject to the 3% stamp duty surcharge.

How much will I save?
